Celebrating Soluna’s One-Year Anniversary

Soluna Restaurant + Rooftop Terrace just celebrated their one-year anniversary, and Fashion Ecstasy was invited to an exclusive VIP party on June 7, 2023! Invited guests enjoyed a sample of signature dishes and specialty cocktails courtesy of Belvedere Vodka and Tequila Patron. If you’re curious to learn more about this new oasis in the middle of Queen Street West, read on!

Discovering Soluna: Tulum Meets Miami on Queen Street West

Soluna is a dreamy, Tulum meets Miami-themed restaurant nestled next to Lush along Queen Street West. The building occupied by Soluna was previously CUBE nightclub and, before that, Ultra Supper Club and BamBoo. Soluna restaurant is owned by Vito Tomasicchio and Dan Gunam. Gunam runs Love Child Social House at King and Bathurst, while Tomasicchio owns the nightclub Hush Hush and NEST located at King and Bathurst.

Highlights from Soluna’s Anniversary Party: A Paradise Unveiled

Below are highlights from the anniversary party:
Meet Me Under the Sun
Upon arrival, we followed the neon-orange sun sign and up the staircase that was dotted with pink wall-climbing flowers and cacti. At the top of the staircase was a very stylish rooftop bar with cabana-style seating, Soluna fans on each table, and quilted Balinese chandeliers above the booths. Entertainment came in the form of sultry Afrobeats and Latin house beats from the resident DJ (Faded with Friends) and costumed incense-wielding dancers. The patio space was large enough to comfortably move through the crowds of well-dressed partygoers without fear of bumping into another person or spilling drinks by accident.

On the topic of the partygoers, there were huge crowds that hovered over the two bars throughout the evening. The anticipation for drinks seemed to stretch on as we noticed there was only one bartender per bar. However, I must commend the extraordinary efforts of the bar staff in tirelessly managing the orders, ensuring that every person waiting was served promptly and keeping the party flowing by replenishing the mixes. Perhaps, if additional bartenders were brought in to assist, the crowd could have been eased and the wait time minimized, adding to the overall enjoyment of the event.

Savouring Summer Time Bites: A Fusion of Flavors at Soluna

Summer Time Bites
The food served at this party was inspired by Latin American, Southeast Asian, and Mediterranean fares. A couple of the hors d’oeuvres came straight off of the restaurant’s menu. These food items were the Sandia, a mezcal-infused watermelon bite, and the Tuna Tostadas served with a tangy mango-fennel slaw and tobiko mayo. Their most significant standout dish was the cakey chocolate brownie for its light and airy texture, fluffy vanilla buttercream, and passionfruit coulis that provided a nice tart contrast to the brownie’s sweetness. It was so popular that the second a tray of the brownies was set on the bar, guests swarmed the tray and grabbed a handful of brownies within seconds.
Guests were also treated to three specialty cocktails that were straight off of the menu—two alcohol-based cocktails and a mocktail. These bright, fruity, and refreshing drinks heightened Soluna‘s tropical getaway experience.

The Bohemia was a Sumac-infused vodka-based drink mixed with spiced cranberry juice, lime juice, and thyme syrup. While the end result was a pretty pink drink with subtle spicy and floral notes, the vodka was way too strong, which overpowered the other ingredients.

An Oasis in the City: Celebrating Soluna’s First-Year Journey

Final Thoughts
It was fun celebrating the first-year anniversary of Soluna Restaurant and Rooftop Terrace. We will definitely recommend this place for its delicious food, trendy vibe, and great entertainment. Keep in mind that Soluna has a slightly strict dress code for its guests, especially on the weekends. Here’s to another year of being an oasis in the middle of the city.
