The Moonlight Gala 2023 was a success, having raised over $630,000, which goes directly to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection located in Kleinburg, Ontario.

Celebrating Canadian Artists at the McMichael: A Showcase of Contemporary, Group of Seven, First Nations, Inuit, and Iningat Ilagiit Artworks

The McMichael is dedicated to exhibiting only Canadian artists, and its over 7000 artworks are divided into Contemporary, Group of Seven, First Nations, Inuit and Iningat Ilagiit galleries.

The host of the evening was journalist Elvira Caria. She introduced the McMichael Executive Director Ian Dejardin and Elder Shelley Charles (Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation).

The docents took us on a tour of Meryl McMaster‘s exhibition “Bloodline,” which featured her large-scale self-photographs that explore her Plains Cree/Siksika and Anglo/Dutch heritage. We also explored William Kurelek‘s “Jewish Life in Canada.”

Then it came time to enjoy the variety of food stations by The Food Dudes. Chicken kara-age, tuna tataki, sea bass, prime beef sliders, Creekstone prime striploin, onion soup appetizers, grazing appetizers: mini grazing box (Applewood smoked cheddar, sage derby, Spanish chorizo, Montreal smoked turkey, crostini, seed crisps, The Food Dudes mustard sauce and jam), tomato toast (stracciatella, sourdough, manchego, basil sprouts, chilli relish and Maldon sea salt) and fresh roll (marinated vegetables, avocado puree, crispy vermicelli and citrus ponzu), cauliflower steak. Chef David Wolfman prepared his Baked Xaxli’p Salmon (seaweed and pine nut crusted with pea puree). San Antonio Seafood Market& Oyster Bar supplied PEI Oysters.

For dessert, there were sprinkled donuts. Big Cannoli Lane‘s chocolate and vanilla cannolis, eclairs macarons, a gelato bar by Dolcini with Tanzanian chocolate, pistachio di Bronte, ricotta with roasted almond fig, and a balsamic glaze and hazelnut Piemonte. Sorbets were pina colada, Limone and earl grey. And for the kid at heart, there was a candy bar by Johnvince Foods.

There were plenty of drinks to taste throughout the evening, including the prosecco walk with Montelliana Mont Blanc Cuvee, Stratus Wines‘ 2017 Tollgate Rose, and 2019 Weather Report Viognier, 2018 Weather Report and Cabernet Franc. The Last Straw Spirits Bar offered Old Fashioned, Rum& Punch and Cafe Portuguesa, Kings Lock Craft Distillery’s Organic gin and vodkas, French 75 and Steam Whistle Pilsener. Later in the evening, the Food Dude’s food truck served truffle Fries, mac and cheese balls.

The fantastic band, Montreal Rhapsody Orchestra, kept everyone dancing until the evening ended. The live auction featured exciting items like the Fogo Island trip for 2. And guests got to take home a freshly rolled cigar.

It was one night to truly remember.
