My 7-Day Travel Blog To Jordan – Home To Numerous Unesco World Heritage Sites

Jordan is a small country located in the Middle East, and it is home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites that are a must-visit for any traveller. Jordan has a rich history waiting to be explored, from the ancient city of Petra to the historic castle of Ajloun. This travel blog will explore some of Jordan‘s best UNESCO World Heritage sites and what makes them so unique and special.

  • Petra: The Rose City

 

Petra is one of Jordan‘s most iconic UNESCO World Heritage sites, and it is also known as Rose City. This ancient city was carved into the rock over 2,000 years ago, which is an attestation of the architectural and engineering prowess of the ancient Nabateans. The town is famous for its massive stone structures, including the Treasury, the Monastery, and the Royal Tombs. One of the most famous monuments in Petra is The Treasury, an impressive building carved into the cliff face and decorated with intricate carvings and sculptures.
The Monastery, on the other hand, is a massive structure perched on top of a cliff. The Monastery offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The Royal Tombs, located near the Monastery, are a series of elaborate tombs carved into the rock and adorned with beautiful carvings and sculptures. Visitors to Petra can explore the city on foot or on horseback. They can also take a guided tour to learn more about the history and significance of the site.

  • Ajloun Castle: The Fortress of the Falcons

Ajloun Castle is a medieval fortress built in the 12th century by the Muslim general Saladin. The castle was constructed to defend the city against the Crusaders and was used as a base for Saladin‘s army. The castle is situated on top of a hill, offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The castle is also home to several exhibitions showcasing the site‘s history and significance.
Visitors to Ajloun Castle can explore the castle‘s battlements and towers and see the remains of the castle‘s kitchens, barracks, and storage rooms. The court also features a small museum showcasing the castle‘s history and the surrounding area.

The Citadel of Amman is a hilltop fortress built in the 7th century BC. The citadel was created by the Ammonites, and it was used as a fortress and palace for centuries. The citadel is situated in the heart of Amman and offers stunning views of the city. Visitors to the citadel can explore the remains of the palace, the Temple of Hercules, and the Byzantine church.
The citadel is also home to a museum showcasing the city‘s history and surrounding area. Visitors to the citadel museum can learn about the history of the fortress, the Ammonites, and the city of Amman.

The Umm ar-Rasas Archaeological Site

Umm ar-Rasas is an archaeological site that dates back to the 6th century AD. The place was once a thriving city, home to several well-preserved buildings and monuments. Visitors to Umm ar-Rasas can explore the city‘s remains, including the church of St. Stephen, the most significant Byzantine church in Jordan. The church is adorned with stunning mosaics, which is a demonstration of the artistry of the Byzantine era.

For a week, I was lucky enough to experience the resort‘s facilities and participate in some of the fantastic tours it has to offer.

  • My Week-Long Stay at the Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa:

  • Here’s a day-by-day rundown of my incredible stay at the Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa:

  • Day 1: Arrival and Check-In

After a long flight, I arrived at the resort, where I was greeted by friendly staff members who helped me check in and get settled in my room. My room was spacious, clean and well-appointed, with stunning views of the Dead Sea and surrounding mountains. I immediately changed into my swimwear and headed to the pool to enjoy the warm sun and calm waters.

  • Day 2: Spa Day

On my second day, I decided to treat myself to a spa day. The resort‘s spa is one of the best I’ve ever experienced, offering a wide range of treatments and services, including massages, facials, and body treatments. I opted for the Dead Sea Mud Wrap, which was terrific. The therapist used mineral-rich mud from the Dead Sea to exfoliate and hydrate my skin, leaving me feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

  • Day 3: Mountain Hike

On day three, I joined a guided mountain hike, which was a great way to explore the stunning scenery and get some exercise. The walk was challenging, but the views from the top were absolutely breathtaking. I also had the opportunity to learn about the local flora and fauna from our knowledgeable guide.

  • Day 4: Float in the Dead Sea

Of course, I couldn’t leave the resort without floating in the famous Dead Sea. It was a fantastic experience, floating in the warm and salty waters and feeling the minerals working their magic on my skin. I also applied the mineral-rich mud to my skin, which was said to help with skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

  • Day 5: Jerash and Ajloun Castle Tour

On day five, I joined a tour to visit the ancient Roman city of Jerash and Ajloun Castle, located in the hills above the city of Jerash. The tour was a great way to learn about Jordan‘s rich history and cultural heritage. I was amazed by the well-preserved Roman ruins and the stunning views from the castle.

  • Day 6: Petra Tour

On my final full day at the resort, I joined a tour to visit Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The journey to Petra was long, but the stunning views along the way made it worth it. Petra itself was awe-inspiring, with its towering cliffs and intricate carvings. I spent several hours exploring the site, taking in the beauty and learning about its history.

  • Day 7: Departure

On my last day at the resort, I packed my bags, said goodbye to the friendly staff, and headed to the airport for my flight home.
