Event Details

The 35th Annual Dragon Ball in support of the Yee Hong Community Wellness Foundation was held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, celebrating the Lunar Chinese New Year‘s Year of the Dragon. The sold-out gala was attended by 1000 guests, which included noted government dignitaries, Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow and Ontario Liberal Party Leader Bonnie Crombie.

Pre-Dinner Reception

This year’s Dragon Ball had a pre-dinner reception with a variety of hors d’oeuvres and photo opportunities. Guests got to enjoy Gushi Chicken Kaarage Skewers, Wonton Hut’s meatballs and mini wonton noodles, Souper Well’s Nourish and Immunity Booster soups, The Choya’s drinks, Heart Sushi’s California rolls, eel and salmon sushi and Fuwa Fuwa’s Original Burnt Top Cheesecake.

Johnnie Walker provided their Limited Edition Luna New Year with neat drinks.

Entertainment and Speeches

As guests entered the beautifully decorated ballroom, they were greeted by the hosts of the evening, Vanessa Hui and Winston Sih. The entertainment started with The Sunny Tang Performance Troupe doing their rendition of the Dragon’s Accolade to the Dragon Ball. There was an important speech by Dr. Joseph Wong, the founder and chair of the Yee Hong Foundation, highlighting the pressing need to increase access to longer-term care facilities for older residents in Ontario.

Dining Experience

Guests dined on a delicious meal of Seared Smoked Duck Slivers, Fresh Shell Giant Scallops, Dragon Fruit Pork Shank and Strawberry Mousse.

Auction and Fundraising

The silent and live auction items provided an opportunity for guests to further contribute to the Yee Hong Foundation‘s fundraising efforts. As one of the top non-profit providers of long-term residential care across Canada, Yee Hong has 805 long-term care beds in the GTA Greater Toronto Area, a hospice residence and community programs and services that provide resources for 16000 seniors and their families. Yee Hong helps seniors (of various ethnic backgrounds) to have a better quality of life. Funds are needed to increase capacity to meet the significant needs for long-term care beds. The “Love Gives” campaign has a goal of $80 million to start the construction of three nursing homes and add 800 more beds.

Conclusion

It was a great evening, and the funds raised will make a massive difference in the well-being of seniors in GTA.
